The ninth Runet Prize award ceremony, which recognizes achievements in developing the Russian internet sector was held in Moscow on November 21. The Russian Association of Electronic Communication (RAEC) and the Coordination Center for RU/РФ Top-Level Domains organized the event. The prize ceremony was first held in 2004 to mark 10 years of the Russian internet. The Runet Prize was originally intended to be a one-off event, but the organizers decided to hold it annually. The Runet Prize is the equivalent of an Oscar for Russian companies, government agencies and NGOs, involved in the internet sphere.
The Digital October center of new technologies and technological entrepreneurship won two categories. The jury recognized the achievement of Digital October in creating a unique site where startups and investors can meet in the “Startup-Navigator of the Year” award. The center’s distance learning project Knowledge Stream (knowledgestream.ru) was voted winner in the “Science and Education” category.
CEO of Digital October Dmitry Repin said after the ceremony: “Today’s prize is a tribute not so much to the venue but to the content that we create on a site that everyone is familiar with. Our plans for the near future include the development of two strategic areas, media and education. It may be that education becomes the main focus of our development.”
