Meeting of the White Jaguar Senior Editors’ Club: Cars of the Future
On December 9th, Digital October hosted the White Jaguar Senior Editors’ Club’s fifth and final meeting of the year on the topic, “Cars of the Future.” The moderator of the meeting was Alexander Pikulenko, commentator for radio station Ekho Moskvy.
Cars were the first personal vehicle to give people the freedom to move throughout the world––and yet they are also one of the primary causes of environmental pollution. According to Ostap Bender, it is in fact pedestrians, not motorists who “constitute the best of humanity.” At the meeting at Digital October, editors of Russian print publications discussed:
- What kinds of concepts in the modern car industry will provide the foundation for the future of motor transport?
- What will motorists be like in 20 years? How will they perceive the car?
- Will the psychology of motorists change? Why is waiting in traffic for two hours in a personal “box” more enjoyable for motorists than reaching somewhere in 20 minutes by public transportation?
The meeting was attended by Andrei Kolesnikov, editor-in-chief of Russian Pioneer magazine and columnist for the newspaper Kommersant; Sergei Apresov, editor-in-chief of Popular Mechanics; Mikhail Leontiev, head of the television program Odnako and editor-in-chief of the magazine of the same name; Alexander Kobenko, editor-in-chief of Cars magazine; Alexander Zheleznyak, editor-in-chief of National Geographic Traveller; Yurate Gurauskaite, editor-in-chief of InStyle magazine; and Aliona Doletskaya, editor-in-chief of Interview magazine.
You can watch the broadcast on the project's official website and on the “Theory and Practice” page. There you can also watch recordings of the previous four meetings on “Cosmopolitanism,” “Hidden Knowledge,” “Art,” and “Science and Technology.”
