Presentation of Greg Horowitt’s book on innovation and inventors

January 29, 2013, 18:40 presentation

On January 29 a presentation of the Russian edition of “The Rainforest: The Secret to Building the Next Silicon Valley” was held at the Digital October center. Greg Horowitt, the book’s coauthor, shared his ideas on the emergence of innovators and innovative products in society.

Greg Horowitt developed the “Rainforest” model along with fellow venture capitalist Victor Hwang from California. The concept is explained in their book "The Rainforest. The Secret to Building the Next Silicon Valley," which was published in the U.S.A. in 2012. The authors believe that the conditions required for innovators and innovation itself are not dissimilar to those in a rainforest, in which creatures both great and small, undergrowth and beneficial plants, live together. The Russian edition of the book was published in 2013, with the support of the Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics.

The “Rainforest” idea was discussed by:

  • Aleksandr Uvarov, Vice President for the innovative development and international activities of the Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radio Electronics,
  • Natalya Ivanova, Russian Academy of Sciences, first deputy director of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations.

Representatives from the ministries and government of Moscow, specialists from hi-tech companies, venture investors, university and scientific organization representatives, as well as professional consultants also took part in the discussion of the “Rainforest” concept.

Discussion chair: Aleksandr Galitsky, Almaz Capital Partners managing partner.
