The First DOORS International Film Market
On June 22–24 Digital October Center hosted the first DOORS International Film Market in Moscow held by Roskino with the support of Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation. The event took place at, and with the participation of Digital October Center.
DOORS (Digital October Official Roskino Screenings) is a new format film market at which the screenings of Russian films were held for foreign distributors, sales-agents, VOD-distributors and international film festivals selectors. Filmmakers from different countries get the opportunity to establish business contacts with the professionals of Russian cinema and TV industries.
The film market was aimed at the promotion of Russian cinema at international scene, inspiring the interest of international distributors in purchasing of Russian domestic content as well as acquainting foreign distributors with new generation of talented Russian film makers and their works.
In case of signing of contracts, Roskino on agreement with production companies is ready to co-finance advertisement and PR campaigns of the films on the territory where they will be distributed.
Leading distributors from the US, who have successful experience of distribution of independent European and Asian films in the US, took part in the first DOORS film market. Some of them are already concerned with distribution of Russian films. DOORS presented 22 new Russian films to the executives of foreign distributor companies.
On June 23 the Summit of film industry professionals took place at Digital October Center as part of DOORS.
Sydney Levine, a leading international expert on film producing and independent film distribution, had run the event.
The major issues of the event were:
- Multiplatform content distribution. The approaches to the promotion of Russian films at the USA market: Digital—Hybrid—Day and Date.
- Opportunities of Russia—USA co-production: present and future.
- Forming of optimal strategy of Russian films’ systematic promotion at international markets.
On June 24 International Visual Award ceremony took place at Digital October Center as part of DOORS.
The award was given for “An outstanding contribution to development of international independent film distribution.”
In the course of International Visual Award the special prizes were also awarded. Aeroflot—Russian Airlines established individual prize “Creative Flight” — “For the overcome of distance between the US and Russian cinematographs.”
