On November 7th, the Digital October Center hosted a live link-up with Yin Lu, the ‘culture architect’ of Coursera, a popular project in the world of MOOC’s. Through the Knowledge Stream project, Yin Lu, who is responsible for the company’s work with foreign markets, shared the ideas behind the offline ‘learning hubs’ that her company is organizing all over the world.

Just a few days ago, Coursera announced the beginning of an experiment that will come to fruition with the help of educational partners and US consulates in twenty-some countries across the world. The project will offer a mixed form of learning in which students who are taking a particular course online are given the opportunity to attend regular meetings with local experts in their cities.

These hubs will open essentially simultaneously in cities across Europe, Asia, Africa, and South and Central America: Helsinki and Prague, Seoul and Shanghai, Cairo and Baghdad, Buenos Aires, and even Trinidad and Tobago.

Yin discussed:

  • Coursera's social mission
  • MOOC landscape
  • "How we decided to create learning hubs"
  • "Trends we are seeing"
  • How can digital and physical communities compliment one another?
  • "How can we work together to turn knowledge into action?"

Since Russia became one of Coursera’s leading growth markets in 2013, one of the classes will be held in Moscow – at the Digital October Center. Join one of the hubs right now!
