IT for Business: To Create or To Adapt

October 23, 2012, 19:00 discussion

The informational-analytical internet channel organized a public discussion of how the philosophy and practice of a business determine the approach to its automation. The conversation took place on October 23 in Digital October’s Small Hall.

The participants in the discussion were:

  • Gennady Bauman, Director of the Department of Information Technology of Norilsk Nickel;
  • Dmitry Krasyukov, representative of the General Director of SAP CIS;
  • Roman Peresypkin, Commercial Director of the company intelligence.

The moderator was Alexei Asafev, Commercial Director of National Center of Support and Development.

Modern information systems help companies in different sectors to organize work. With their help, it is possible to accomplish a range of tasks: regulating safety technology in production and quality of goods, solving problems of logistics, and supporting relations with clients. Information systems need to deal with these tasks independently of a company’s location: beyond the Arctic Circle or in South Africa.

A question stands before companies that work in narrow sectors or in specific natural conditions: should an information system be created that has been tailored from the beginning to the particularities of the business, or should standard programs be used from leaders of the market of automation systems? Experts discussed this and much more in the course of the conversation at Digital October. The discussion took place in the series “From the First Person” with the support of Norilsk Nickel.
