Freemium: To Be or Not to Be

On October 19, representatives of the cellular game division of the company Games took part in a regular meeting of the Russian Apple Developer User Group community in Digital October. The meeting, titled “Freemium: To Be or Not to Be,” was dedicated to business models that are used to promote gaming and nongaming applications for cellular devices.

The organizers of the meeting — the professional society of Apple developers, designers, and managers Russian Apple Developer User Group and the leaders of the online-entertainment market the company Mail.Ru Games — alongside invited participants, shared their experience in the realization of various models of monetization, looked into the future of games for cellular devices, discussed the application freemium in nongaming applications, and constructed a psychological portrait of a user.

The following talks were planned in the program of the meeting:

  • “New Possibilities for Promoting Applications” by Guillaume Larrieu (Flurry);
  • “Models of Freemium” by Stepan Frolov (Targeting);
  • “Characteristics of Genres and Monetization in Russian and Japanese Game Design” Nikita Lyubonov (Will Ark Corporation).


Heads of the meeting were Alexei Goncharenko ( Games) and Mikhail Denisov (Mobile Developer Day).
